1 dies, 7 injured, many trapped in Kano building collapse

At least one person has been confirmed dead and seven others rescued, while many are feared trapped in an uncompleted three-storey building, which collapsed on Tuesday evening at a  popular GSM market in Beirut Road, Kano.

Dr Nuradeen Abdullahi,Territorial Coordinator, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), disclosed this to newsmen in Kano on Tuesday, while giving an update on the tragedy.

He said that the incident occurred at about 3:05 p.m, adding that the building collapsed while additional construction of stairs was ongoing.

He said, “So far, eight persons were rescued and were taken to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano, for treatment.

“One person died, six persons with minor injuries had been treated and discharged, while one person with multiple fractures was still receiving treatment.”

The NEMA boss added that search and rescue operations were still ongoing to rescue those trapped beneath the rubbles.
