A former Chief of Policy and Plans  of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Air Vice Marshal Napoleon Bali (rtd) has declared his intention to contest for the seat of Plateau South Senatorial District in the 2023 general elections. According to him, he took the decision after due consultations and tentative endorsement by many PDP stakeholders in the Senatorial Zone.

Bali who is vying for the senatorial seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) made this known in a letter of intent which he personally issued on Tuesday and addressed to the party’s stakeholders.

The distinguished career officer and multiple decorated fighter pilot who retired in 2019 as the second highest ranking NAF officer, explained that his ambition was predicated on the need to leverage his rich experience in security issues and network of contacts globally to tackle the security challenges that were currently bedeviling his constituents.

He said that his interest also stemmed from the fact that, he had in the past played very active roles in the development of his immediate constituency through various developmental initiatives which he had emplaced.right from when he was a youth to date, and the need to step it up.

The letter entitled, “Expression of Interest to Contest the Plateau South Senatorial Seat in 2023,” reads: “It is with gratitude to God and a sense of deep humility that I write to formally inform you of my interest in running for the position of Senator, representing the Plateau South Senatorial Zone.

“My interest is predicated on the fact that, I have in the past played very active roles in the development of my immediate Constituency through various developmental initiatives that I have emplaced. These I have done consistently since my youthful days to the position of a Retired 2-Star General in the Nigerian Air Force.

“I strongly believe that I am well positioned to deploy my leadership skills and wide contacts and Security background and expertise to add value to my senatorial zone, as well as in developing solutions that would help resolve the security challenges facing our dear constituency. I will also leverage my goodwill and wide contacts to promote the socioeconomic development of our people.

“I will like to add that I have gained a lot of experience during the course of my illustrious career and had the opportunity while in active service to provide solutions towards tackling insecurity, while also engaging communities, home and abroad in peace building and negotiations towards a better society. These are all attributes that I intend to bring to bear if my quest for the Senate  is successful.

“In view of the foregoing, I respectfully offer myself as a candidate to contest the 2023 Plateau South Senatorial Position, by the Grace of the Almighty God.

“Thank you very much and please accept as always the assurances of my highest regards and esteem.”

Periscope International reports that the entry of the Langtang-born retired military top shot in the senatorial race has already unsettled other prospective aspirants across all political parties due to his bright chance of winning the contest based on certain political permutations.
