90-year-old Emir marries 20-year-old girl
Emir of Daura, HRH, Faruk Umar Faruk, 90, has married a 20-year-old bride, Aisha Iro Maikano.
The Emir’s new wife is the daughter of Fagacin Katsina, Iro Maikano.
The nonagenarian who was born in 1931 is said to have married his beautiful bride in a low key marriage ceremony in Katsina.
Sources said that following a brief courtship, he had paid a dowry of N1million naira to the bride’s family.
Aisha is said to be the fourth young lady that the serial polygamist has married in the last six years.
The jubilant bride was seen dancing to the tune of a traditional music at the wedding ceremony in a short video posted online.
Periscope International reports that cases of very young ladies getting married to very old traditional rulers are common in Nigeria.
Recently, the traditional rulers of Oyo and Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi and Lamidi Adeyemi, respectively, took young brides as new wives.
