Anxiety as Appeal Court delivers judgment today impinging on Gov Mutfwang’s fate
There’s palpable apprehension among Plateau State political stakeholders and their supporters, especially in the two major political parties, APC and PDP, as the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja is set to deliver judgment on the state’s governorship tussle this afternoon.
The appellate court’s decision follows an appeal by the Plateau state 2023 election governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), challenging the election of Gov Caleb Mutfwang of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Nentawe of the APC had lost the March 2023 governorship election, as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mutfwang as the winner of the poll.
However, Nentawe challenged the declaration and return of Mutfwang, at the election petition tribunal, but lost again.
Today’s judgment will be the semi-final stage of the battle for the soul of Plateau by the gladiator political parties as whoever loses will likely proceed to the Supreme Court for final arbitration.
