APC national legal adviser resigns over Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket
The national legal adviser of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Daniel Bwala has resigned from the party over the decision of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu to pick Sen Kashim Shettima, a fellow Muslim as his running mate for next year’s presidential election.
Bwala announced his immediate resignation on Sunday in a post which he shared on his Twitter account, following the unveiling of Shettima by Tinibu as his running mate.
Shettima, a Muslim by faith will be running alongside Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is also a Muslim.
Bwala’s resignation comes amid the backlash from a cross-section of Nigerians who argue that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is dead on arrival.
Many critics of the decision contend that a Muslim-Muslim ticket is insensitive to the religious composition of Nigeria which has about 50 percent Christian population and about the same number of Muslims.
“Tonight I officially resigned my membership of @OfficialAPCNg on principles and conviction that I hold so dear.
“At this time of our national existence, our efforts and energy should gravitate towards uniting our people,” Bwala tweeted.
