Armed Robbery: Court sentences 2 men to death by hanging
An Ekiti State High Court in Ado Ekiti, has sentenced two men, Makinde Kola and Haruna Bika to death by hanging for armed robbery.
Delivering judgment on Tuesday, the trial judge, Justice Olalekan Olatawura, convicted the men on five counts and sentenced them to death, accordingly.
Earlier in February, the convicts were arraigned by the state government on a six-count charge bordering on conspiracy, armed robbery, rape and kidnapping.
Mrs. Olasanmi Oluwaseun, the prosecution counsel, had told the court that the defendants robbed one Taiwo Oni and Mohammed Ayomide of their phones at Idi Mango Camp, Ilasa-Ekiti on on October 6, 2021
They were also alleged to have robbed one Mr. Adejuwon Gbenga of N31,000.
Oluwaseun said, “On the same day, date and place, they kidnapped one Adejuwon Daramola and also raped a 19-year-old mother of a five-month-old baby during their operation, armed with cutlass and gun.
“The offences contravene sections 516, and 401 (2) of the Criminal Code Law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012, Section 2 (2) of the Ekiti State Gender Based Violence (Prohibition) Law, 2019.
“It also contravene Section 3 (a) of the Kidnap and Terrorism (Prohibition) Laws of Ekiti State, 2015.”
