A police officer, Shafi’u Bawa, has reportedly committed suicide in Niger State.
Sources familiar with the incident said that the deceased was an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) attached to the police command in the state.
It was gathered that the officer’s lifeless body was found hanging from the ceiling of his bedroom on Saturday.
The incident occurred in Rigasa, Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger, it was learned.
Confirming the incident, the father of the deceased, Usman Bawa, who first discovered the officer’s corpse in the bedroom, said that he reported the matter to the police command.
He said that police officers later arrived at the scene and transported the body of his late son to the general hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Bawa said that the remains of the late officer were later released to his family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
