Submerged Boko Haram enclave in the Sambisa general area.
Many Boko Haram terrorists have died following the devastating flooding that struck Borno State and submerged about half of Maiduguri the state capital.
It was gathered that the members of the insurgent group buried the discovered bodies of no fewer than 100 of their members who were killed by the disaster.
“The insurgents were hit hard by the devastation; they’ve buried over 100 corpses,” a source said.
Security sources claim that the Alau Dam disaster, which seized control of the Sambisa Forest, the terrorists’ stronghold in the area, was the reason for the flood.
The Sambisa Forest was overflowed on Monday around 2am, and many of the terrorists were said to be asleep when the flood struck.
The terrorists’ severe losses were caused by Sambisa Forest’s marshy terrain, which resulted from the River Yedzaram overflowing and flooding Dollarland.
Scores of the terrorists’ family members, including women and children connected to them, perished when their homes were destroyed by the rampaging water, sources said.
Periscope International reports that the recent flooding that hit the state is said to the worst since 1994.
Relief efforts from governments, NGOs, and private individuals like Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, who donated a whooping one billion five hundred million naira, have since started pouring in to save thousands of victims.
