Breaking: Court sentences Hilton Hotel boss, Adedoyin, to death by hanging

An Osun State High Court sitting in Ile-Ife, has sentenced the owner of Hilton Hotel, Ile-Ife, Dr Rahmon Adedoyin, and two of the hotel’s staff members, to death by hanging for killing Timothy Adegoke, a postgraduate student of the Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU.

Adedoyin has been standing trial alongside six of his employees—Magdalene Chiefuna, Adeniyi Aderogba, Oluwole Lawrence, Oyetunde Kazeem, Adebayo Kunle, and Adedeji Adesola for the student’s murder.

They were arraigned for multiple offences, including conspiracy, murder, felony, indecent interference with a corpse, alteration and cancellation of receipts, and obstruction of justice.

Delivering judgment in the case on Tuesday, the trial judge, Justice Oyebola Ojo, who is also the Osun State Chief Judge, held that the circumstantial evidence provided by the prosecution overwhelmingly pointed to Adedoyin as the principal perpetrator behind Adegoke’s tragic murder.

The judge declared that Adedoyin and two of his workers, based on the circumstances of the case established by the prosecuting counsel, Femi Falana, SAN, were culpable in the conspiracy to commit murder, and unlawful killing of the deceased.

Periscope International recalls that Adegoke was first declared missing by his family before his dead body was later found in Adedoyin’s hotel on Monday, November 7, 2021.

The victim, who was based in Abuja had travelled to Ile-Ife to write an examination of the school’s Distance Learning Centre for Moro, Osun State.

His family and friend began to worry when he couldn’t be reached as he didn’t show up for the exams and his calls were not going through.

The police however later found his lifeless body a week after he was declared missing.

This led to the arrest of Adedoyin, owner of the hotel where Adegoke had lodged before he went missing alongside six other suspects.

However, four out the hotel’s six staff members, who were prosecuted alongside Adedoyin for the crime were acquitted and discharged from the charges levelled against them.
