Breaking: Gunmen lay siege on Abuja-Kaduna road, kill ex-Zamfara governorship aspirant
Armed men believed to be kidnappers laid siege on the Abuja-Kaduna expressway around the notorious Rijana axis on Sunday, abducted several travelers and killed a former Zamfara State gubernatorial aspirant in the 2019 election, Sagir Hamidu.
Sources said that Hamidu was shot dead around 4pm on Sunday by the gunmen when they opened fire on travelers near Rijana on the busy expressway, adding that many passengers who attempted to run were fired at, while those who cooperated were shepherded into the bush.
Although the Kaduna State Police Command spokesman Mohammed Jalige was not immediately available to comment on the incident, security sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they had no permission to do so, confirmed that Hamidu was felled by the bullets of the criminals.
The deceased was until his death the proprietor of FAMAKS British Schools in Abuja and Kaduna, had vied for governorship on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
