“Impeached” Speaker Paul Emeziem
Breaking: Imo Assembly Speaker “impeached”
The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Paul Emeziem, has allegedly been impeached during plenary on Monday.
Reports claim that 19 lawmakers from a total of 27, signed the impeachment letter which was subsequently read on the floor of the house.
Kennedy Ibeh, representing Obowo constituency, has allegedly been elected as the new Speaker of the House.
The impeached Deputy Speaker, Amara Iwuayanwu, is said to be the arrowhead of the alleged impeachment of the Speaker, which gives the impression of a power tussle within the state legislature.
Emeziem’s traducers have accused him of gross misconduct, forgery, abuse of office and high-handedness.
However, Emeziem has described the alleged impeachment as a “sham, childish, null and void”.
“Today is not our plenary day. Today is for our committee sittings not plenary.
“If there should be any plenary, I am the one empowered by the law to call for it.
“Amara Iwuanyanwu can’t convene a plenary because he was properly impeached.
Amara Iwuanyanwu stands impeached,” Emeziem said.
