Breaking: PDP floors APC as S/Court affirms Gov Adeleke’s election
The Supreme court on Tuesday in Abuja declared Osun Gov Ademola Adeleke winner of the state’s July 16, 2022 governorship election.
Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was declared the winner of the poll by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), after polling 403,371 votes against his predecessor, ex-Gov Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the then incumbent with 375,027.
However, Oyetola and APC had challenged the outcome of the polls at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal alleging irregularities during the election.
On January 27, 2023, the tribunal held that Oyetola scored the majority lawful votes of 314,931 against Adeleke’s 290,266 and upturned Adeleke’s victory.
Not satisfied with the tribunal’s judgement, Adeleke and the PDP approached the Court of Appeal, which on March 24 nullified the judgment and affirmed Adeleke as the winner.
However, Oyetola appealed the Appeal Court’s verdict to the Supreme Court, which delivered the final verdict on the Osun State governorship tussle between Adeleke and Oyetola in favour of PDP’s Adeleke.
