Breaking: Tafa Balogun, ex-IGP is dead

Mr Tafa Balogun, a former Nigerian Inspector General of Police, has died aged 75.

A family source who confirmed the demise of the former police boss said he died on Thursday night at Reddington Hospital, Lagos Island.

The deceased served as Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for corrupt enrichment and later charged to court for money laundering.

Despite his being a sitting IGP, Balogun was arrested, handcuffed and paraded in public by EFCC operatives in a most embarrassing way.

The ex-IGP had prior to his death gone underground after the show of shame and nothing much was heard about him ever since his trial.

Details of his death are still sketchy It was not clear as of press time what killed the 75-year- old. senior police officer.
