Breaking: Tinubu is President-elect, says INEC
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Sen Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as President-elect.
INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, who announced this on Wednesday morning at about 4:am, said that Tinubu polled a total of 8,794,726 votes to defeat his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Atiku Abubakar, who polled 6,984,520 votes.
Mahmood also announced that Mr Peter Obi of the Labour Party came a close third position after polling 6,101,533 votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigerian Peoples Party got 1,496,687 votes, coming a distant fourth position in the presidential race.
According to the INEC boss, the total number of votes cast were 24,966218, while 24,025940 valid votes and 939,278 rejected votes were recorded.
Periscope International reports that Tinubu and Vice-President-elect, Sen Kashim Shettima, will be given their certificates of return later on Wednesday by 3pm.
