A Federal High Court in Lokoja has given the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the go-ahead with the process of recalling Sen. Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi Central) from the National Assembly.
Delivering the ruling on Friday, the court set aside an earlier ruling that restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from receiving the recall process initiated by her constituents.
The court affirms that the recall process was constitutionally valid and aligned with the civic rights of the constituents.
The judge urged the constituents to continue exercising their rights in an orderly and peaceful manner, as they had done so far.
It would be recalled that the senator’s constituents had launched the recall process, citing a vote of no confidence in her, in the wake of her spat with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The recall process, which is guided by INEC’s constitutional guidelines, and spearheaded by prominent individuals like former Kogi Gov. Yahaya Bello, could culminate in her removal from office before the end of her term.
