A Kano State High Court has sentenced a Chinese man, Frank Quarong, to death by hanging, for stabbing his estranged lover, Hajiya Fatima Zubairu, to death.

Delivering judgment, the court presided over by Justice Sunusi Maaji, dismissed all the six witnesses and evidences presented by Quarong and sentenced him to death by hanging for culpable homicide.

Justice Maaji agreed with the compelling arguments put forth by the prosecution counsel, led by the Kano State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi.

The prosecution had outlined the events of September 16, 2022, when Quarong fatally stabbed the victim in her residence located at Janbulo Quarters, Kano.

In spite of efforts to save her, the victim succumbed to the injuries during the attack and subsequently died at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, Kano.

It was gathered that throughout the trial, Quarong maintained his innocence, pleading not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

However, the prosecution’s meticulous presentation of witnesses and exhibits left little room for doubt regarding his culpability.

The court explained that it was guided by the provisions of Section 221(b) of the Penal Code, and said it delivered the verdict based on the gravity of the crime committed by the convict.
