Security operatives have found the dead and decomposed body of a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly representing Onitsha North Constituency 1, Justice Azuka.

It would be recalled that the late Azuka, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP), was kidnapped at gunpoint on 24th Dec., 2024 on the Ugwunabakpa Road, Inland town, Onitsha.

His body was discovered by a combined security team at the 2nd Niger Bridge on Wednesday night.

The suspects who kidnapped and killed him were said to have led security officials to where they dumped the body after they were arrested and interrogated.

“We have arrested the culprits that kidnapped and killed him.

“They were arrested very late last night (Wednesday), and they now went and showed the security men where they dumped the corpse,” a security source said.

“It is sad and tragic. What a huge loss. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

“Our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to his family, traditional ruler of Onitsha, Obi of Onitsha, Dr Alfred Achebe and the entire people of Onitsha North Constituency 1,” the source said.

The deceased lawmaker had regained his mandate after a court ruling ousted the previous winner, Douglas Egbuna of the Peoples Democratic Party, who was initially declared the winner of the 2023 election.

The police command in Anambra had yet to officially react to the development as of the time of filing in this report.
