The ECOWAS Court of Justice is set to hold its 2024 Judicial and Judges’ Retreats from Nov. 25 to Dec. 1, in Suleja, Niger, the court’s communication department stated on Monday.
The retreats’ theme is: “Judicial Case Management; Relationship Between the Office of the Honourable President, Honourable Judges, Registry Department and Legal Research and Documentation Department.”
According to the statement, this year’s two retreats aim to enhance the efficiency of the court’s judicial processes, strengthen interdepartmental collaboration, and address key issues in the administration of justice.
It added that the retreats also aimed to explore modalities and best practices for harmonising and standardising the court’s processes and procedures.
“The judges’ retreat will focus on various proposal documents and draft policies under the theme: Final Adoption of Draft Amendments to the Relevant Texts of the Court.
“The varied presentations and discussions aim to produce actionable recommendations to enhance the Court’s operations and delivery of justice.
“The retreats, which will be declared open by the President of the Court, Justice Ricardo Gonçalves, are annual activities of the Court,” the court said.
It explained that the activities will enable the judges, directors and staff to explore pertinent issues to enhance the implementation of its mandate as the principal legal organ of the ECOWAS Community.(NAN)
