EFCC will probe fake $6m notes intercepted by Customs
Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it is probing the fake $6m earlier seized by operatives of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, at the Seme Area Command recently.
My Michael Wetkas, EFCC Lagos Zonal Commander, disclosed this to newsmen while receiving the fake $6m notes during a media briefing.
The event was organized by by the Customs Area Controller, Seme, Badagry, Comptroller Dera Nnadi.
Wetkas assured that discrete investigations were already ongoing and thanked the leadership of the NCS for the sustained collaboration between the two agencies.
He also assured of greater support in the fight against corruption and fraud-related offences.
While speaking earlier, Nnadi had said that the Seme Command, in the first quarter of 2023, recorded milestones in its anti-smuggling operations.
He said, “Some of the anti-smuggling landmarks by the Command include the seizure of fake $6m equivalent of N2.7 billion at the exchange rate of N460.52, which will be handed over to the EFCC today.”
He also used the occasion to seek a more robust collaboration with the EFCC as well as other law enforcement agencies in the fight against smuggling within the command.
