The Northern State Governors’ Forum has felicitated with all  Muslims and Nigerians generally on the occasion of Eid-el-Kabir celebration and solicited sacrifices and prayers from all and sundry to enable the country to overcome its current challenges.

According to a goodwill message by the Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, issued on Monday by his spokesman, Makut Simon Macham in Jos on Monday, the governors said that the occasion calls for sober reflection, gratitude to God and intensive prayers for God’s protection and deliverance of the nation from its current challenges.

It said the governors stressed that the Eid-el-Kabir celebration is very significant, particularly because it symbolizes an auspicious occasion for sacrifice, particularly by Nigeria’s leaders who have been saddled with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the nation and ensuring that unity, peace, justice and development are achieved.

“Nigerians are a largely loving, peaceful, tolerant and compassionate people, who have respect for one another, irrespective of their differences, despite the activities of a few who are desperate to propagate a negative narrative of discord and acrimony.

“This realization has made the Northern Governors Forum to intensify synergy and collaboration with stakeholders and engagement with citizens towards addressing the security challenges of the nation that are prevalent in the region and a major source of concern to all.

“The Forum urges the faithful and all Nigerians to remain steadfast in working and praying for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria and extending God’s blessings to each other, irrespective of religious, tribal, political or other affiliations, as the situation cannot be allowed to bring the citizens to despair and hopelessness as no tough situation is permanent and above redemption,” it said.

The Forum also used the occasion to congratulate the National Assembly for passing the long awaited Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB), which it said will facilitate the exploration and exploitation of oil and gas resources in other parts of the country for the economic benefit of the entire nation.
