FG buys SUV’s worth N1.4bn to tackle Niger Republic’s insecurity

The Federal Government says it has purchased vehicles worth N1.4 billion to help neighboring Niger Republic to tackle its insecurity internal security challenges.

Zainab Ahmed, Finance Minister,  confirmed the purchase of the 2022 V8 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting presided over by the President on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ahmed was responding to a question by a journalist regarding documents released on social media which showed that the President did approve the release of the funds on February 22, 2022 for Niger Republic.

She said that the gesture was the prerogative of President Muhammadu Buhari who approved the purchase for the purpose of providing security logistics intervention to Niger Republic

The minister explained that she could not question the decision of the president who has the right to make his own assessment of situations and give directives accordingly.

Ahmed further explained that the financial support, which was primarily for the purpose of enhancing Niger’s capacity to protect their territory, based on a request by the Nigerien Government, which was in the best interest of Nigeria..
