FG set to extradite Abba Kyari to U.S for trial
The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed extradition charges against suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari to extradite him to the U.S to stand trial over alleged wire fraud.
The application for extradition suit filed by the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, is before the Chief Justice of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/249/2022, the the suit is brought under the Nigerian Extradition Act.
According to the charge sited by Periscope International, the suit was brought following the request for Kyari’s extradition by the US Embassy in Abuja.
The office of the AGF, contends in its submission that the federal government was persuaded that the charges for which Kyari is wanted by the U.S were valid, non-political or trivial.
Periscope International reports that the U.S embassy had earlier equested that Kyari be handed over to the U.S government to answer to charges bordering on conspiracy to commit international money laundering crime.
Kyari was indicted in a U.S investigation of a celebrated case of international electronic money laundering case involving an arrested Nigerian suspect, Ramon Abbass, also known as Hushppupi.
