Gov Ortom says Buhari lacks capacity to tackle Nigeria’s insecurity, economic challenges
Gov Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has clearly shown that it lacks the capacity to tackle Nigeria’s myriad of security and economic challenges.
Ortom who stated this at a press conference in Abuja, said that the country was currently “under siege,” warning that if urgent steps were not taken, “terrorists would overrun the country in no distant time.”
He claimed that at least 1,700 persons had been killed in Benue State since Buhari assumed office in 2015 and urged the Federal Government to urgently do something about the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
The governor further said that about 1.5 million persons were still in internally displaced persons (IDPs) camps across the state with no hope of returning to their ancestral homes anytime soon.
The governor said he was compelled to speak out against threats to the country’s sovereignty as a patriotic citizen, adding that those keeping silent in the face of evil perpetrated by unscrupulous individuals are worse than the perpetrators.
He also explained that a cabal in the government prevented him from meeting Buhari to discuss the issues of insecurity, hence his decision to talk to the press.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) government has not only failed Nigerians but has also appeared helpless in the fight against insecurity and has shown that it has no capacity to fix the economy, agriculture and education,” he said.
Ortom stressed that Nigeria’s worst military regime was better than the present administration.
