Gov Ortom’s ex-aide defeats him in senatorial race

Mr Titus Zam, a former Special Adviser to Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, has defeated his former principal in the Benue NorthWest Senatorial District conducted on Saturday.

Zam contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) while Ortom flew the flag of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

Announcing the results on Monday, the Returning Officer said that Zam polled 143,151 to defeat Ortom, who scored 106,882.

The Labour Party candidate came a distant third with just 51,950 votes.

Periscope International reports that Zam was Ortom’s aide during his first term in office from 2015 to 2019.

The Senator-elect was the governor’s Special Adviser to the Governor  on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs before resigning from office on issues bordering on loyalty.
