Gen Yakubu Gowon, former Nigerian military Head of State, has congratulated Plateau State Governor-elect, Mr Caleb Mutfwang, over his victory in the March 18 Plateau State governorship election.
Gowon congratulated Mutfwang when the Governor-elect visited him at his residence on Tuesday in Abuja.
According to Gowon, it is God who gives power to whomever he chooses, as demonstrated by the decision of Plateau people at the polls
He promised to support the Governor-elect and the incoming administration.
Earlier in his address, Mutfwang told the elder statesman that his visit to him was born out of respect for him and to honour him.
The Governor-elect pledged to, on a regular basis, engage with the former military leader and other respectable Plateau State elders and leaders, for advice and elderly counsel on assumption of office.
Mutfwang was accompanied on the visit by Plateau North Senator-elect, Simon Mwadkwon, Arch. Sam Jatau, Mr Yari Kumchi, among others.
Periscope International reports that Mutfwang of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had defeated Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State to clinch victory in the state’s gubernatorial polls with a margin of over 43,000 votes.
