Gunmen have kidnapped a Catholic priest in Enugu State, identified as Rev. Fr. Gerald Ohaeri.
It was gathered that the priest was kidnapped while he was traveling on the Ugwuogo-Nike-Opi expressway in Nsukka.
He was abducted while on his way back to Isienu, Nsukka Parish from a function in Enugu.
Sources familiar with the incident said that the kidnappers disguised themselves as police operatives operating at a checkpoint and whisked him away from the checkpoint to an unknown destination
The kidnappers also shot at the windscreen of a Hilux vehicle but the occupants escaped being kidnapped by the whiskers following the arrival of the Enugu State deputy governor’s convoy.
“It was someone inside the hilux that shouted that the people we thought were policemen were actually kidnappers,” a source said.
Periscope International learned that Fr. Ohaeri is a lecturer at the Spiritan School of Philosophy in Isienu, Nsukka.
The police command in Enugu had yet to officially react to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
