I engaged in drug trafficking to raise N5m ransom for mummy’s kidnappers —Suspect

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a female passenger, Jatau Lami, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for attempting to export 1,700 tablets of Tramadol 225mg.

NDLEA which disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday signed by its spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said the suspect claimed that she engaged in the crime as a last resort to raise N5m ransom for kidnappers to free her mother who has been in their captivity since June, 2022.

Babafemi said that the illicit drug was concealed in the woman’s luggage while she was on her way to Istanbul, Turkey via a Turkish Airline flight on Sunday, July 31, 2022.

He said that preliminary investigation had revealed that the suspect is a mother of three, who hails from Zangon Kataf LGA of Kaduna State and lives in Istanbul, Turkey with her family.
