Gov Umar Namadi of Jigawa has ordered the immediate suspension of the state’s Commissioner for Special Duties Auwalu Sankara from office over alleged adultery.
A statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, said Sankara henceforth ceased to be a member of the state executive council with immediate effect.
He explained that the decision was in light of recent claims, which necessitated a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the administration.
The SSG emphasised the government’s commitment to accountability and adherence to ethical standards in governance by the Governor.
“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation.
“We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” the SSG said.
Periscope International reports that Sankara was earlier arrested and detained by the state’s Hisbah Board over alleged adultery.
Abba Sufi, the Hisbah Director General, had said that the commissioner was found in an uncompleted building with a married woman, Tasleem Nabegu, who has two kids.
He explained that the arrest followed a complaint by Nasiru Bulama, the woman’s husband, who accused the commissioner of engaging in an affair with his wife.
“Unknown to him, we were tracking him based on reports we received against him.
“Nasiru Bulama filed the complaint with the Kano State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Hisbah Board, alleging Sankara’s involvement in illicit sexual activities with his wife.
“We have been having problems with Sankara because he is operating illicit drugs centres in the name of hotels with prostitution and drug addiction activities,” the Hisbah Director General said.
