Jigawa Judge sacked for collecting N50,000 bribe from litigant

Justice Safiyanu Dabi of Upper Shari’a Court, Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State, has been retired by the state Judicial Service Commission for collecting a bribe of Fifty Thousand Naira (50,000) from a litigant.

Mr Abbas Wangara, Director of Publicity and Protocol Matters, Jigawa State Judiciary, made this known in a statement issued on Friday in Dutse, the state capital.

According to Wangara, the judge collected the bribe from the litigant when he was handling his case before the Upper Shari’a Court, Birnin Kudu.

Wangara explained that the Commission collectively resolved to compulsorily retire the judge following extensive deliberations during its 170th meeting.

He further warned members of staff of the judicial arm of government to shun all forms of corruption and bribery in the state.

Wangara warned that going forward the Commission would deal with any staff members who are found wanting in the discharge of their official assignments.
