Kidnapped bank staff dies after payment of N11.5m ransom

Mr Austin Ilom a staff member of Zenith Bank, Suleja branch, who was kidnapped recently has died after the payment of a whooping sum of N11.5 million ransom.

The late Ilom was a brother-in-law to Sen Agom Jarigbe (PDP-Cross River North).

Sources said that the deceased banker was abducted from his residence in Kubwa area of Bwari Area Council of Abuja.

It was gathered that the kidnappers had initially demanded for a N50 million naira ransom, which the bank did not provide.

Family sources said that Sen Jarigbe together with his friends and colleagues raised N11.5 million ransom.

The kidnappers however collected the N11.5 million as part-payment and asked them to go and get the balance.

A few days later, it was learned that the kidnappers called his family and told them to come and pick him.

The went and found him a half dead man, as he died shortly after they arrived in Bwari hospital.

“He asked for water, before they brought him the water, he gave up,” a family source disclosed.

The late Ilom has been described by friends and colleagues who mourned him as the best marketing staff in Suleja branch of Zenith Bank.

The police command in Niger State had yet to officially react to the incident as of the time of filing this report.
