Kidnapped NAN editor regains freedom

Gregory Maduakolam, abducted editor with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), has regained his freedom on Saturday.

Mmaduakolam who was abducted on Thursday, Dec. 5, said that he was released after payment of N6 million ransom by his family.

The abductors had earlier called the family of Mr Mmaduakolam to demand a ransom of N50 million to secure his release.

Mmaduakolam said he was abducted on Thursday on his way to inspect an apartment he intended to rent, having been posted from his office headquarters to Owerri in Imo State.

He said that the boys intercepted their vehicle and whisked them away.

He said his abductors who were five young boys speaking Fulani fluently.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, who earlier confirmed the abduction of the editor, added that the State command had commenced an investigation to unravel the mystery behind his abduction.

It will be recalled in June 2015 the Head of the reportorial team of the News Agency of Nigeria in Imo State, Miss Chidi Opara, was also kidnapped.

Opara was reportedly kidnapped by two armed men as she was about entering her residence at MCC Road , Urata in Owerri North Local Government Area of the state.
