LP’s Kingibe defeats PDP’s Adudu to clinch FCT senatorial seat

Mrs Ireti Kingibe, the Labour Party’s candidate in last Saturday’s senatorial election in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has defeated incumbent Sen Phillip Aduda of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to win the FCT’s sole senatorial seat.

Prof. Sani Saka, the Returning Officer for the election, who announced the results, declared Kingibe winner after she scored the highest total votes of 202,175 across the FCT’s 6 Area Councils, while Aduda came second with 100,544 votes.

Saka also announced that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr Angulu Dobi, came third with 78,905 votes.

Periscope International reports that Aduda is a ranking senator, who has served in the National Assembly for the past 20 years, 8 of which were in the House of Representatives between 2003 and 2011, and 8 in the Red Chambers since 2015 all on the platform of the PDP.

Kingibe is a wife of Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, the vice presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, whose victory during the 1993 presidential election that was presumably won by the late Chief MKO Abiola, was nullified by the military junta.
