Man bags 30 months imprisonment for unlawful possession of firearms

A Magistrates’ Court in Jos on Wednesday sentenced a 38-year-old businessman, Cho Musa, to 30 months in prison for unlawful possession of five locally made guns.

The Judge, Tapmwa Gotep, sentenced Musa after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The convict was, however, given an option of N40, 000 fine.

The Judge said the punishment would serve as a deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such acts.

Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp. William Awe, told the court that the case was reported on Jan. 7, at the Rantya Police Station, Jos by officers on duty.

Awe said the convict was found with the locally made guns during a stop and search by Operation Safe Heaven, but could not explain how he came about the guns.

The offence, he said, is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law.
