Man jailed 5 years for “procuring, exploiting” teenage girl

A Yobe State High Court sitting in Damaturu has sentenced a 66 years old man Ibrahim Musa to 5 years imprisonment for “procuring and exploiting” a 14-year-old girl.

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) command in the state had arraigned the convict for the offence.

He was charged with “procuring and exploiting” the victim, an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 13 and 16(1) of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act, 2015 (as amended).

Delivering judgement, Justice Lawu Lawan held that the prosecution had proved its case against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.

The judge sentenced him to five years in jail accordingly.
