Man jailed 5 years for stealing padlocks

An Area Court in Jos, on Thursday sentenced a 20-year-old labourer, David Danladi, to a correctional centre for stealing 12 padlocks and two phones.

The judge, Thomas Ajiyse, sentenced Danladi after he pleaded guilty.

Ajitse, however, gave him an option to pay a fine of N40,000, adding that the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who engaged in such acts.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. lbrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Aug. 11, at the Laranto Police Station, Jos, by one Musa Yaki.

The prosecutor said that the convict was employed as a salesman in the shop, but he stole two phones and 12 padlocks, all valued at N136,800.

During police investigation however, the convict refused to disclose the person he sold the stolen items to.

Gokwat said that the offence contravened the provisions of the Plateau Penal Code. (NAN)
