Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has called for the urgent dualization of the Akwanga–Jos Road, a major federal highway and key gateway into Plateau State.
He made the appeal during a visit to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Thursday in Abuja.
Mutfwang described the road as critical to commerce, mobility and regional integration in the North Central region.
He noted that its poor condition poses safety risks and hinders economic activities.
The governor, who appealed for its prioritisation, also lauded President Bola Tinubu for adopting the project as a legacy initiative under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Responding, Umahi assured the governor of the Federal Government’s commitment to the project, considering its strategic importance.
The minister immediately directed relevant officials of the ministry to engage contractors to facilitate the signing of the contract.
According to him, the commencement of work will be subject to available resources and national infrastructure plan.
