NCPC boss says Gov Lalong’s penchant for peaceful coexistence prevents escalation of crisis
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission, NCPC, Rev. Yakubu Pam, says Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong’s penchant for peaceful coexistence is responsible for preventing the escalation of crisis in the state.
Rev Pam, who applauded the Governor over his handling of the recent eruption of violence in the state, stressed that Lalong’s exemplary proactive security measures were efforts that culminated in restoring calm, as well as preventing the situation from getting out of hand.
The NCPC boss stated this in Jos during a courtesy visit to Governor Lalong at the Government House Rayfield with a team of NCPC officials.
Pam said that the NCPC officials were in the state to appreciate the Governor for his support and contribution to the success of the 2021 Christian pilgrimage to Jordan, which was inaugurated in Jos this year.
According to Pam, Governor Lalong has shown remarkable leadership in pursuing peace and has done his best to empower the security agencies in the state.
Such commitment, he noted, helps to deal with criminals who are bent on jeopardising the peace of the State and rubbishing the efforts of Government.
“Because of the measures taken by the Governor and based on his penchant for peaceful coexistence and proactive security measures, the situation did not escalate and those who carried out the various attacks are being fished out.
“The Commission is very grateful to you for maintaining his passion for a successful pilgrimage which led to the historic take-off of the exercise to Jordan from Plateau State for the first time in the history of pilgrimage,” Pam said.
A statement by Dr. Makut Simon Macham, Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, said that Lalong in his response said he was encouraged by the visit of his guests and thanked them for the visit.
“The visit is an affirmation of the support and collaboration of the Executive Secretary who has remained steadfast in promoting peace and ensuring the success of the Rescue Administration.
“The recent events where attackers sought to put a dent on the efforts of the Government for selfish reasons have re-energised my resolve to deal with criminals and also ensure that the citizens carry out their activities without fear or molestation,” Lalong added.
The Governor also promised to continue sponsoring the state’s citizens to pilgrimages, as well as supporting the NCPC because, according to him, “the prayers offered for the peace and progress of Nigeria have paid off and have also put the enemies of peace to shame.”
The statement added that prayers were offered for the State and the nation during the visit.
