Gov. Abubakar Sani Bello of Niger State, has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew on Lambata, Gurara Local Government Area of the state.
The governor’s decision stemmed from a violent clash that led to the killing of the village Head of Lambata, Mohammed Abdulsafur.
The village head was reportedly murdered by some hoodlums during the violent clash which occurred on Saturday.
In statement by Alhaji Ahmed Matane, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on Sunday in Minna, Gov Bello ordered the imposition of curfew on the town from 6.00 p.m to 6.00 a.m, beginning from Sunday, till further notice.
The SSG explained that the imposition of the curfew was to assist the security agencies to stabilise the situation, save lives and restore law and order.
He said that the government condemned in strong terms the violence and act of lawlessness that occurred in Lambata town.
The government therefore urged the residents of the area to cooperate with security agents to restore peace in the town and directed security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the curfew.
