Nigeria to rollout 5G network August 24

Africa’s Telecommunication giant, MTN Nigeria says it wil roll out 5G network by Aug. 24.

The mobile Operator disclosed this at the 90th edition of the telecom consumer parliament, organised by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC in Lagos on Thursday.

In May, the NCC had handed over the final letters of award of 5G spectrum licences to winners of the December 3.5GHz spectrum auctions and mandated by NCC  to roll out services in August.

Reacting to the mandate during a panel discussion, representative of MTN Nigeria, Mr Chinedu Ezeigweneme, said MTN had put plans in place and working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure a smooth roll out.

“We have put all plans in place. We have discussed with relevant stakeholders and I can assure you that come Aug. 24, MTN will roll out 5G services,”Ezeigweneme said.

NCC,during the discussion dispelled the  fears that 5G network had health implications.

Dr Bako Waki, NCC’s Director, Technical Standards and Network Integrity, who presented a paper on the theme of the parliament, said there was no relevant health and safety authority that confirmed any health hazards arising from 5G network.

Wakil however said Industry collaboration was key to successful deployment of 5G Services in Nigeria.

He urged industry stakeholders to stand with the Commission to explore the prospects and potentials of the new technology, which was enormous.

Wakil said 5G would provide many benefits and opportunities that would accelerate growth and smart living in the country.

He said the technology was expected to bring substantial network improvements, including higher connection speed, mobility and capacity, as well as low-latency capabilities.

The theme of the meeting is “5G Technology: Opportunities and Challenges.

Periscope International reports that 5G refers to the fifth generation of wireless technology, which comes with a myriad of transformative capabilities.

It can provide higher speed, lower latency and greater capacity than the current 4G LTE networks we use and one of the fastest, most robust technologies the world has ever seen.

The rollout of 5G means quicker downloads, much lower lag and a significant impact on how we live, work and play.

5G network’s extremely high speed and other connectivity benefits are expected to make businesses more efficient and give consumers access to more information faster than ever.

Prior to the 5G network, there was the first generation of mobile technology, 1G, which was about voice—the ability to use a phone in a car, or away from home really took root here.

Then the advent of 2G network which introduced a short-messaging layer—pieces of which can still be seen in today’s texting features.

It was followed by3G which provided the core network speeds needed to launch smartphones.

The current 4G network was later rolled out with its high data-transfer rates, which gave us video with minimal buffering and gave rise to many of the connected devices and services that we rely on and enjoy today.
