The solemn ceremony, deeply rooted in military tradition, was presided over by Col. I.A. Akabike, the Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration.

He represented Maj-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division and Commander Sector 1 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA.

Sgt. Dalet Akawala was celebrated as a symbol of courage and resilience, embodying the rich cultural heritage and traditions of the division.

Senior officers, soldiers, their families, and other personnel gathered to pay their respects. Prayers for the repose of the mascot’s soul were led by Lt. Col. Ugwu, Acting Deputy Director Chaplain Services (Protestant).

The late mascot belonged to a distinguished lineage, being the direct descendant of the division’s pioneer mascot, Sgt. Farin Doki, who served from 1995 until 2011.

Dalet’s father, Sgt. Danfari Akawala, served until 2014, after which Dalet assumed the role on January 1, 2015.

Dalet continued this legacy until his passing, leaving behind a tradition of excellence and dedication.

In a statement, the Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to preserving its traditions and honoring all contributors, including mascots like Sgt. Akawala, who have played a significant role in symbolizing the division’s identity.

The funeral ceremony highlighted the respect accorded to those who serve the military community, underscoring the unity and reverence within the Nigerian Army.
