Obi defeats Tinubu in Lalong’s polling unit
Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, in Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections, has defeated the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Sen Bola Tinubu, in the polling unit of Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong.
Obi floored Tinubu in Lalong’s Polling Unit 015, Kurumbo Ward B of Shendam Local Government Area of Plateau State, in spite of the governor’s position as the Director-General of Tinubu’s APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Declaring the results for the unit, the presiding officer, Mr Sowan Stephen, said that Obi scored 104 votes, to defeat his closest challenger, Tinubu, who polled 88 votes.
He also announced that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, polled just 8 votes.
Our correspondent reports that Gov Lalong, who is the APC candidate for the Plateau South Senatorial District, was also defeated in his Ward.
Lalong was defeated in his Ward by PDP’s candidate, Air Vice-Marshal Napoleon Bali, rtd., who is the son in-law of his closest rival in the 2019 Plateau State governorship election, Sen Jeremiah Useni.
According to the results announced, AVM Bali polled 1917 votes to defeat the governor, who got 1768 votes.
A former Chairman of Quaan-Pan Local Government Area, PDP’s House of Representatives candidate, Isaac Kwallu, also made mince meat of Chief John Dafaan, Lalong’s former Chief of Staff and the governor’s anointed APC Reps candidate.
Whereas Kwallu scored a total of 2164 votes in the governor’s own Ward, Dafaan got 1674 votes.
Periscope International recalls that Lalong had while casting his vote alongside his wife and daughter on Saturday, boasted that he and his party would win the polls at all levels.
Lalong had stressed that he was contesting election for the fifth time, adding that he had never lost one and urged the electorate to come out en masse to vote the ruling APC back to power.
