Onu advises on domesticatication of technology for rapid industrialisation

Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, Minister of Science and Technology, has advised the Organised Private Sector (OPS) on the need to domesticate critical technology used in the country to achieve rapid industrialisation.

The Minister gave the advice when he received the Management of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (TRANSCORP) Plc., in his office on Tuesday in Abuja.

According to him, the deployment and peaceful use of nuclear power technology will improve the production of electricity and provide sustainable, reliable electricity that will not be affected by environmental conditions.

He noted that to achieve rapid industrialisation of the country in a sustainable manner, was one of the targets of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Onu, who highlighted the role of Executive Order 5 in promoting Nigerian professionals, also placed emphasis on the role of science, technology and innovation (STI), and promotion of the development of indigenous technology.

“Executive Order 5 is critical to Nigeria’s development, as the Federal Government wants to domesticate all foreign technologies used in Nigeria,’’ he said.

The Minister expressed optimism that Nigerian firms and experts would grasp firmly, the nuclear power technology as well as other alternative sources of renewable energy.

He said that those technologies could earn Nigeria additional foreign exchange if the expertise of Nigeria experts could be exported outside.

Earlier, Mr Peter Ikenga, the Managing Director of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (TRANSCORP) Plc., said his company wanted to surpass the transmission of sustainable and alternative sources of electricity around the country.

He also said that over 40 per cent of the country lack energy penetration.

Ikenga made it known that his company was eager and willing to achieve energy penetration to all parts of Nigeria. (NAN)
