No fewer than 500 corpses buried in a cemetery have been washed away after a flooding which ravaged Mariga town of Bariga local government area, Niger state are still missing.

The Chief Imam of Mariga Central Mosque, Alhaji Alhassan Na’ibi confirmed the development to newsmen on Tuesday.

“We are now searching for over five hundred corpses buried in a cemetry in Mariga town who we believe were washed away by flood in Mariga.”

“The community is in total confusion as we have to  relocate about 100 other corpses from the cemetery to another burial ground to curb the happening.

“The problem is as a result of the activities of illegal miners near the grave yard,” he said.

He lamented that the community has never experienced such situation in over 60 years of the cemetery.

Na’ibi, however, appealed to the Niger state government to as a matter of urgency come to their aid to ameliorate the situation.
