Philanthropists donate N47m to Nguru market fire victims
Alhaji Ibrahim Adam, Chairman, Nguru Market Traders Association in Yobe, has said that the association received N47 million donation from philanthropists to support victims of fire incident in the market.
Adam who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Nguru, listed the donors to include the President of the Senate, Ahmed Lawan, who donated N10 million and a philanthropist, Alhaji Balarabe Abdullahi, who donated N11 million.
He said that two Lagos-based businessmen who pleaded anonimity donated N25 million and N1 million, respectively.
The Chairman said that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) provided 10 trucks of relief materials for distribution to the victims.
According to him, the items included roofing sheets, cement, nails, rice, seasoning, clothes, beans, maize and tomato paste.
While commending the gesture, Adam said the money and relief materials would be distributed to the 441 affected traders.
It would be recalled that the fire incident which occurred on Jan. 7, razed 441 shops containing fabrics, shoes, food stuff and used clothes.
