The Plateau State Government has closed down six foreign schools operating illegally in Jos, the state capital.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Kachollom, announced this when she led a special task force to the schools.
The task force comprises the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Sadiya Yero; Director of Quality Assurance, Mr Sabastine John; some other staff of the ministry, among others.
Gang expressed dismay over the existence of illegal foreign learning centers across the state.
She explained that the visit to the schools was necessitated by the desire to know how the schools were established without the approval of the authorities.
Gang noted that it was unsettling for schools where all the students are foreigners were illegally established in the state.
She said that the development was suspicious, adding that there could be more than meets the eye.
The Commissioner disclosed that the schools were not registered, hence the state government’s decision to sanction them.
She said that it was the Ministry of Education’s responsibility to ensure quality education in the state.
The affected schools are: Kellyfils Institute, located at Terminus area; Alpha Idea Center for Languages Initiative, located at No 4 Ndagi Farouk, Jos; Evangelical Divine Academy, located at No. T5 Idika street, Apata Jenta, Jos.
