The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has arrested a pastor with the House on the Rock Cathedral and two others over unlawful possession of firearm in Abuja.
DSP Josephine Adeh,Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, said this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.
She said the pastor’s message and demonstrations were tagged as inciting in the media and on social media.
Adeh said the pastor was arrested alongside the church’s Chief Security Officer and one police Inspector, who was on duty on the said day.
She said the inspector had unprofessionally released his rifle to the pastor without permission or recourse to police authorities.
Adeh said investigation had commenced on the matter and urged the public to shun actions or utterances that could breach the law.
Periscope International recalls that Uche Aigbe of the House on the Rock, Abuja, at the weekend reportedly brandished a rifle during a sermon, the videos of which went viral.
He had mounted the pulpit carrying a firearm, and stirred up the congregation. while preaching on the theme,”being on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
In his opening statement, Pastor Aigbe stated that he “came prepared” to face any troubles.
He then cautioned the congregation against falling for rogue preachers who are using prophecy as a means of extortion.
“There are some pastors who are operating under the spirit of divination. They know how to read palms and are not different from palm readers.
“They can look at you and tell you about your past, things that happened many years ago in your family tree and you think this is a prophet,” he is seen saying in a video of the service shared online.
“How many people in Jesus’ lifetime did Jesus tell about their past?
“There are certain things that have nothing to do with the gospel.
“God is not a magician and does not use your past to manipulate you.
“That is why we need to carry our guns and defend our faith,” he added.
