Police kill gunman in gun duel in Jos
The police command in Plateau State has said that its operatives killed a suspect in a gun duel at Du community in Jos South Local Government Area of the state capital.
The command said it also recovered one AK-47 rifle and live ammunitions from the hoodlums.
The spokesman of the command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident on Thursday in Jos that a patrol team sighted some gunmen who criminally barricaded the road in Du on Tuesday.
He added that rather than surrender, the gunmen opened fire on the police operatives.
“Upon sighting police operatives, the gunmen engaged them in a fierce gun battle but they were subdued. One was shot dead while others fled with gunshot injuries.
“Exhibits recovered from the suspects were one AK47 rifle with breach number AE 353550 and eight rounds of 7.62 ×39mm live ammunition.
“Efforts are in top gear to apprehend fleeing members of the gang as investigation is still progress,’’ he stated.
Alabo added that the Commissioner of Police in Plateau, Mr Bartholomew Onyeka, called on residents to report any suspicious movements within their vicinities to security agencies for prompt response.
He stated that Onyeka also assured residents that the police and other security agencies would continue to work tirelessly to ensure the safety of their lives and property.
