Police parade suspected suicide bomber, others in Plateau

The police command in Plateau has paraded a suspected suicide bomber, who was arrested while allegedly attempting to detonate an improvised explosive device at a branch of the United Bank for Africa, UBA, Dadin Kowa, Jos on Monday afternoon.

CP Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, the Commissioner of Police in the state, announced this while parading the suspect alongside other criminals before newsm at the command’s headquarters in Jos, on Tuesday.

According to CP Adesina, the suspect was apprehended at the UBA branch,Sparkling Junction, Dadin Kowa, Jos, on Monday.

He said: “On 13th May, 2024 at about 12pm, the police received a distress call from UBA Sparkling Junction, Dadin Kowa, of a suspected armed robber, who had entered the banking hall with suspected explosive devices tied around his body, and handed over a note to the cashier demanding for the sum of 100 Million Naira under the threat that the explosives would be detonated if his request was not granted. 

“The bank attendant immediately reported to the Manager of the bank, who swiftly reported to the Police at Rantya Division and then evacuated customers from the bank. 

“On sighting the Police vehicle, the suspect panicked and started running out of the bank,in the process. Police officers posted at the bank saw him running and pursued him with the help of the youths in the area, and he was then arrested. 

“His name is Benjamin Basil, male, a student of Plateau State Polytechnic, Barkin Ladi, Heipang Campus.”

The police commissioner also paraded some armed robbery suspects and recovered locally made guns from them. 

“On 7th May, 2024 at about 3pm, a report was received from the Wase Divisional headquarters, that sometime in the month of February 2024, one Danladi Vennim, male, while on his way to Jawando Village was attacked by armed hoodlums, who snatched his Boxer motorcycle at gun point. 

“On receipt of the report, our team of Policemen led by the DPO of Wase Division immediately commenced investigation into the matter. Consequently, one Suleiman Mohamadu, male, 26 years old was arrested in connection to the armed robbery incidence.

“Exhibits recovered from him include one locally fabricated AK47 riffle with one round of 7.63mm. Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime.

“It will interest you to know that the command has arrested two suspects in connection to a criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and culpable homicide, which was reported to us on 29th November, 2023 at about 11am, which involved one Johnson Kanje, male, 65 years old now late and one Suleiman Aliyu, male.

“The suspects are: one Yuguda Abubakar, and one Hassan Yuguda, both males of Safiyo, Bashar District. The suspects will be charged to court once our investigation is concluded. 

“Also, on 13th May, 2024 at about 4pm, we received credible intelligence, revealing a location where kidnappers kept their victims hostage somewhere within Doemak Hills, Quan’pan LGA. 

“Upon receipt of the report, I ordered the immediate dispatch of a search party to the hideout, comprising of our policemen and members of our security help groups.

“On arriving at the scene, there was a hot gun battle between our men and the kidnappers. Due to our superior fire power, the suspects abandoned their victims, namely: one Dashe Dadoer, 55years and one Noeman Lukas 30 years, both males of Loegoet in Tim village. The victims have been reunited with their families,” the CP said.
