Presidency to build N21.9bn Presidential Clinic in 2022
President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the construction and equipping of a 14-bed Presidential Clinic in 2022 at the cost of N21.9 billion.
Umar Tijjani, Permanent Secretary, State House, disclosed this while presenting the 2022 budget proposal for consideration to members of the Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-governmental Relations.
According to the Permanent Secretary, construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria, will construct the VIP clinic, adding that the physical construction will start on November 1, 2021, while the targeted commissioning date is Dec. 31, 2022.
He further explained that apart from the 14-bed facilities, the clinic will have a total area of 2700 square meters, with underground, first floor, two operating theatres, two Executive Suit, two VIPs, two isolation and one six-bed isolation area within the complex.
In addition, he said, the VIP Clinic will also have a laboratory, healing garden, pharmacy, and x-ray facility within the facility.
“The project was conceived in 2012 by the previous administration and the brief was produced.
“It was estimated to cost about N21.9 billion and the facility contains a 14-bed space with a total area of 2700 square meters, with underground and the first floor.
“Most of the preliminary work has been concluded, and we have gone to the Bureau of Public Procurement to get Certificate of No Objection,” he said.
The Permanent Secretary added that the clinic will also be opened to heads of African countries for medical treatment.
Tijjani explained that Julius Berger was chosen for security reasons and also because it was the company that built the State House and has been maintaining it since 1990 with a great job record.
