Slain NYSC member buried in own hometown

The remains of a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Samaila Awudu, who was murdered on Friday has been laid to rest in his hometown in Taraba State.

The late Awudu was killed in Yola, Adamawa State, where he was serving, when five armed assailants stormed his residence at the youth corners’ lodge, shot and fatally wounded him.

He was rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), located Yola South, where he was later confirmed dead by a doctor.

Sources told Periscope International that the incident occurred at the Yolde Pate NYSC Corpers’ Lodge in Yola South Local Government Area.

A corps member, who witnessed the incident, told our correspondent that when the killers arrived at the lodge, they locked up all the doors of the other corps members before going to Samaila’s room.

“They used an axe to hack him him to death. Maybe they were hired killers, we don’t know. Right now we are all living in fear,” he said.

The deceased youth corps member was 28 years old when he met his untimely death.

Earlier, the spokesperson for the police command in Adamawa, Suleiman Ngoruje, a Superintendent of Police, SP,  confirmed the incident and described Awudu’s death as unfortunate.

Ngoruje had assured that the police would bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to book, adding that the police had already begun a manhunt for the arrest of the assailants.

“The Adamawa State Police Command under the leadership of CP Sikiru Akande has ordered an investigation to find out those behind the crime.

“When the incident happened, the Commissioner of Police drove down to the scene and personally took him to the hospital,” he said.
